Descubren 163 nuevas especies de plantas y animales en Asia

Expertos descubrieron 163 nuevas especies, incluida una rana con colmillos, en el área que cubre el río Mekong a su paso por el sudeste de Asia, informó en un comunicado, el Fondo Mundial para la Naturaleza (WWF, por sus siglas en inglés).

La "Limnonecter megastomias", una rana con colmillos, es una de las especies descubiertas por los científicos, la cual se alimenta de pájaros e insectos y utiliza sus dos pequeños colmillos como armas durante los combates contra otros machos durante la época de apareamiento.

"Estas especies han estado ocultas durante milenios, pero ahora las estamos sacando a la luz y, evidentemente, todavía hay muchas más por descubrir" , indicó el director del Programa "Gran Mekong" de WWF, Stuart Chapman.

Alertó que si bien los efectos del cambio climático, "como sequías e inundaciones", amenazan seriamente la supervivencia de muchas especies "algunas podrán adaptarse al nuevo clima, pero otras no, lo que puede dar lugar a un proceso masivo de extinción, ya que el calentamiento global reducirá el escaso hábitat de estos animales", explicó

Happy Independence to all Belieans at home and abroad. Today Belize is 28 years old. To get to this day we, as a nation, have had to do many things and have had to endure many more. BUT WE ARE A STRONG PEOPLE. OUR DESTINY IS SURE. WE ARE THE MAKERS AND THE DESIGNERS OF BELIZE. As we move forward to yet another year in the life of this young nation, let us look back at the past, at the mistakes we have made. Hopefully we can learn from them. Hopefully we can BUILD A NEW BELIZE. Hopefully we can recover that which we seek... economic stability, happiness and peace. ( These are just a few because each and every person may have more things which they seek todaqy in Belize). Let us accept that we can MOVE with the flow. Let us go out and WORK for a better life for ourselves, our children and grandchildren. Let us not wait for tomorrow, for tomorrow, my friends NEVER COME!!!

It is now 1:45 am on a really nice and cool Sunday morning. It is the day before INDEPENDENCE DAY IN BELIZE!!!!

Tomorrow is Carnaval in Corozal Town. I think I will have to try and stay back and take some much needed pictures. Hope the weather will be great. It rained yesterday in Chetumal, big time!!!
